Do you need a warrant? The answer isn't always obvious...

USAG William Ferland will discuss applicable legal concepts that all fire investigators should know and consider during their investigations. Topics will include right of entry, responsibility, questioning of witnesses/suspects, spoliation and rules of evidence.

There will then be a round table/panel discussion focusing on some of the major case law which impacts fire investigation work. Michigan v. Tyler, Michigan v. Clifford, USA v. Rahman and other important cases will be discussed. Participation is encouraged!

We are also pleased to host speakers from the Department of Business Regulations - Insurance Division. They will be speaking about RI State Law which regulates the conduct of board-up companies and insurance adjusters while on a fire scene.

Elections will be held at the end of the day. Please consider attending so that you can have a voice in how this organization moves forward!
