Arson Investigators Subrogation Webinar Series (Joint Education Webinar with IAAI)
“Subrogation Fires & Explosions Involving Death or Serious Injury”
Tuesday, June 15, 2021 – 1 p.m. EST

Subrogation fires and explosions involving death or serious injury present complex ethical and legal issues to the investigator, subrogation unit and counsel. Subrogation essentials to be followed and guidance on navigating a loss with a death or injury component will be explored. Topics include investigator, insurer, and counsel coordination with government officials; transfer of scene; interview timing; NFPA 921, Chapter 25; and coordination issues involving the insured’s personal counsel.

Presenters – Dave Matejczyk – Roberts, Matejczyk & Ita & Brian Churchwell – Churchwell Fire Consultants

David Matejczyk, a partner at RMI, has participated in hundreds of fire scene and forensic lab examinations involving fires and explosions during his career, many involving deaths and serious injuries to insureds. A member of the first Board of Directors of NASP, he served as the chairman for three annual conferences of the organization. David is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law (JD), Gannon University (MPA) and Alliance College (BS).
