Description

Arson Investigators Subrogation Webinar Series (A Partnership with IAAI)
“Fire Scene Safety, Preservation, and Relationships: Three Keys to a Safe and Successful Fire Investigation”
Friday, August 17, 2018 – 1 p.m. EST

Steps taken immediately after a major fire will significantly impact not only the health and safety of those involved in the subrogation process, but also the ability to properly document and preserve the fire scene in accordance with NFPA 921 mandates. Our presenters will discuss the NFPA 921, Chapter 13, hazards investigators, claims professionals, and counsel face while present at a fire scene. Also discussed will be often overlooked NFPA 921, Chapter 12, and recommendations for site access, scene preservation, evidence preservation, notice letters, and joint exams. Advice will be offered on how to avoid problems resulting from conversations or events that take place at the scene that could adversely impact an otherwise good subrogation case.

Chris Konzelmann is a senior partner in the subrogation department of White and Williams LLP. His practice is focused on investigating and litigating fire losses throughout the United States. Chris is a frequent lecturer on property subrogation related topics and an active member of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Chris is a Captain in the Moorestown Fire Department in Burlington County, New Jersey which gives him a unique understanding of fire related topics.

Dave Matejczyk has devoted his entire legal career to the area of insurance subrogation. A member of the first Board of Directors of NASP, he served as the chairman for the original and two subsequent annual national conferences of the organization. David's recovery success on large property files can be attributed to immediate sight visits; coordination of proper experts; coordination of scene and forensic exams; extensive experience with the requirements of NFPA 921 and Ohio law.

Kevin Crawford began his fire service career in 1983 with roles as firefighter, paramedic, and engineer. His most recent position was Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator for North Metro Fire Rescue District in Broomfield, Colorado. Kevin has been actively involved in fire investigations for the public and private sector since1998 and he has served in several capacities with the Colorado Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Kevin currently serves on the Board of Directors for the IAAI and Chairs the IAAI’s Health and Safety Committee
