This presentation will provide a detailed review of the additions and changes to the newly entitled Chapter 6, Fire Effects and Fire Patterns, of the 2021 edition of NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations. This chapter was completely rewritten and presents data in a format consistent with the application of the scientific method. 

Learning Objectives:
• Identify/Review the investigators job during the scene inspection is to observe and record observations (collect  data) of the various fire effects.
• Identify/Review the difference between fire effects and fire patterns.
• Identify/Review the categories of fire effects.
• Identify/Review how to characterize the various fire effects. 
• Identify/Review that electrical arc mapping is a process intended to illustrate patterns useful to the investigator.
